THE US BICYCLE ROUTE SYSTEM - AN INTRODUCTION The U.S. Bicycle Route System is a proposed national network of bicycle routes. For a route to be officially designated a U.S. Bicycle Route, it must connect two or more states [say, oh, Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi], a state and an international border, or other U.S. Bicycle Routes. U.S. Bicycle Routes are intended to link urban, suburban, and rural areas using a variety of appropriate facilities. These routes are nominated for numbered designation by State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and are catalogued by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) through the Special Committee on U.S. Route Numbering (the same committee that assigns numbers to U.S. highways and interstates) USBRS ROUTE 90 IN LOUISIANA The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) has expressed an interest in getting USBRS Route 90 in Louisiana approved by AASHTO. To do that, we are contacting each of the eleven parishes the route passes through to consider signing a Resolution of Support. We are also contacting as many as possible of the villages, towns, and cites the route touches to ask them to consider signing a Resolution of Support. THE PARISHES Below is a table of the eleven parishes, from west to east, as Route 90 crosses the state :
