For the start of our 5th year, BRASS, your 501 (c) 3 community-based
bicycling and walking advocacy group, has planned four - yes, 4! - 2011 Spring Velo! Velo! series rides. We're working on the last details of the rides but here's what we've got planned so far: Velo Covert at Velo Louisiane - Saturday, April 09 - ride starting and ending at City Park that will take riders on "the back way" to the Perkins Road Park, site of Sunday's Velo Louisiane events - and on to the Mall of Louisiana and back; Velo Verte- Sunday, April 17 - ride from the LA House at LSU (link will open a new window) located at the southwest edge of the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at 2858 Gourrier Avenue, between Nicholson Drive and River Road, adjacent the LSU golf course (near the intersection of Nicholson Drive and Burbank Drive). We will then ride to other earth friendly sites ultimately ending at the Louisiana Earth Day celebration downtown; Velo des Artes - Sunday, May 01 - starting downtown at the Louisiana State Museum, 660
N. 4th St., Baton Rouge (link will open in a new window), we'll gather at 8.30 AM. At 9.00 AM we'll ride in the vicinity of the capitol campus looking at public art, head out to visit a working artists' work space, stop at Magnolia Cemetery to talk about the symbolism of grave art and why such a thing exists at all, then head downtown for Fest For All, and; Velo Baton Rouge - Sunday, May 15 - starting at BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation, 2161 Nicholson Drive (link will open in a new window) we'll gather at 1.00 PM to take in the history of that plantation then we'll head out to Burden Research Center to see how that plantation differs, have a picnic meal, then head back to Magnolia Mound. This ride will include another "back way" route. Registration on site for each ride. $10.00/non-member - $5.00/members. CHILDREN UNDER 12 MUST WEAR A HELMET BY LOUISIANA LAW - NO HELMET, NO RIDE. |
